Fish oil treatment for anxiety

This is an opinion & response that I had with a person on Yahoo Answers who apparently thought that I was over recommending fish oil.

What do you think of Fish oil? for Anxiety?

There's a person on here, telling everyone to take fish oil for depression, anxiety, & most everything. Fish oil is great for your heart & so is COQ10. But, fish oil isn't for everyone. So, check with your doctor first. Ok? I've been taking fish oil for 8 months now & no postive results. I have an aunt that swears on CO Q 10 for the heart, better than fish oil. What do you think?

Plus, St Johns Wort is better for depression, I think.

Fish oil works for anxiety

Hi chicky,

I am the guy that's been telling everyone to take the fish oil. If you read my answers, you'll see that I have not recommended it for everything. I have only recommended it for things that I honestly think may help someone. In my case the benefits I received from taking the fish oil included all of the following,

1)Complete remission of all generalized anxiety sypmtoms
2)Complete cessation of all panic and anxiety attacks
3)Complete remission of all depression symptoms
4)Massive increase in emotional stability
5)Massive increase in mental clarity and focus
6)Much improved blood lipid profiles -- total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, & triglycerides
7)Major reduction in recovery time for hangovers
8)Improvements in skin complexion
9)Much faster recovery of sore muscles after an intense workout

If you had something work so well for you, wouldn't you tell everyone?

Telling everyone to check with their doctor is a great idea. Fish oil does have blood thinning effects that someone on blood thinners or other medication should be aware of. Just keep in mind that many doctors are totally unaware of how effective this stuff can be. The drug companies aren't out there educating doctors on the efficacy of fish oil supplementation. They only push their company's medicines.

I am only doing this because of my own personal experience. I sufferred for years and years. I know how awful depression & severe anxiety can be. I am so grateful for this stuff and believe in it so much that I intend to tell everyone I can about it. That is why I created this depression and anxiety website to tell my whole story. In addition, I have seen no evidence what so ever of any negative side effects from taking an ultra-refined variety.

Of course, its not going to have the dramatic effect on everyone as it did with me. But, if it worked that well for me, its going to work well for some others also. In my personal life, every single person, without exception, that I have turned on to this stuff believes it has helped at least to some degree. Those people include my immediate family, my wife, father, uncle, brothers, as well as many close friends. They were not suffering from depression, but did experience many of the same other benefits that I did.

I have done boat loads of research on this stuff. Which is why I encourage everyone else to do it. When you read the science behind it, it becomes apparent how and why the stuff works. It is my belief that in the next 10-20 years, there will be major medical breakthroughs in the science of mentall illness, based on what is already known about the body's needs for these essential fatty acids. Researchers will say,"Its been right under our noses all this time. How could we not see it?"

I am sorry you feel it hasn't worked for you. I suggest you either adjust your dosage or stop taking it all together for a month. See how you feel. It takes about that long for the effects to totally wear off. If you don't think you feel any worse after one month, then why bother taking it?

Thanks for hearing my 2 cents.

Are you skeptical about fish oil? Read more about it. The more research you do on your own the less skeptical you will be about taking fish oil for anxiety disorders.
