How much fish oil to take for depression and anxiety?
The dosage a person needs to take is going to vary from person to person. I noticed results from just one single one gram capsule of generic brand fish oil. Once I was convinced that it worked, I upped my dosage to 3 one gram pills. My symptoms didn't completely disappear until after I had been taking the higher dosage of omega-3 for quite some time. This stuff works over a period of months and years. It is not an overnight cure.
When you take a 1000mg fish oil capsule the concentration of the active ingredients is often times less than 50%. The rest of the pill is made up of filler. If you read his book, Dr. Puri states that the EPA is the most important fatty acid. Therefore, I would look for a high ratio of EPA to DHA. Below is a label from the fish oil I take. The ratio of EPA to DHA is 2.55:1 or approximately 5:2. I take 3 of those pills. So, my daily supplemental intake of EPA = 1875mg, DHA = 735mg.

Please make sure you are taking pharmaceutical grade oil. The really cheap generic stuff has unacceptable levels of contaminants. This is very important especially for women of child bearing ages.
