Finding Religion as Treatment
When people are suddenly faced with life altering afflictions such as a mental illness like depression, it is no wonder that they turn to religion for help. It is very difficult for most people with mental illness to readily admit to others that they have it. People who say it isn't embarassing to admit it, have probably never experienced it. Those of us who have experienced it, know it is not an easy thing to admit. Prayer is something that can be done in private. Thus, it offers a person the chance to pour their heart out to an ever merciful and loving friend called God. In this scenario, God becomes their therapist. God is always willing to listen. God never judges them for their self-perceived weakness. God knows all of their thoughts, so it is pointless trying to mask them. What an absolutely wonderful outlet for a person to have who is suffering so greatly.
Pray like crazy
I have to admit that I prayed like crazy when I went through my depression. It helped give me the resolve to keep searching for something that would bring my life back to reality.
You have probably heard rumors about the power of prayer to heal. I can't say for sure whether or not it is true. I'd like to believe it is. Maybe people who are suffering from depression should give their faith a second chance. This might be the opportunity of a lifetime to renew your faith and reinvigorate your soul. Try talking to God. Nobody will know you did it except you. It can't hurt. It can only help.
